Youth Month invites us to reflect — not only on the courage of past generations, but on how we are supporting the current one. Many young professionals enter the workplace with energy, ideas, and the desire to contribute. But in high-pressure environments, they often don’t get the guidance they need to perform.

At the same time, leaders are overwhelmed. With tight deadlines and rising demands, it’s easier to step in and do the work than to coach someone through it. But that creates a cycle where leaders carry too much, and young people don’t grow.

Leadership = Results Through People

Your success as a leader depends on others. If you’re not developing your team, you’ll feel constant pressure to step in — and your capacity will suffer.

That’s why the ability to lead and grow younger professionals is not optional. It’s how you deliver results sustainably.

Young Talent Is Diverse

There’s no single way young people show up at work. Some are confident, others cautious. Some learn fast, others need more support. The common thread: they want to be trusted, developed, and given space to contribute.

Leaders who recognise this — and flex their approach — get better performance.

Three Practical Ways to Lead for Results

You don’t need more time. You need to lead with purpose. These three habits make a big difference:

✅ 1. Clarity Enables Delivery

Vague instructions waste time. Clear expectations speed things up.

Ask: “What does success look like? What will you show me when it’s done?”

✅ 2. Make Sure They Have the Means

Don’t assume people have what they need — check.

Ask: “Do you have the tools, info, and access to move this forward?”

✅ 3. Create Safety for Learning

If people are afraid to admit when they’re stuck, they’ll hide problems — and results will suffer.

Say: “If something’s unclear or going off-track, let me know early so we can fix it together.”

Grow People. Get Results.

Great leaders build capability — not dependency. If you want better delivery, invest in how you lead the people doing the work.
